The declarations were completed at the Shepparton and Albury electorate offices at noon on Friday.
Tim Laird, from the Liberal Democratic Party, was drawn on top on the Nicholls ballot paper and Independent Rob Priestly is at the other extreme, the 11th candidate on the lengthy list.
While new to the Nicholls electorate election process Undera farmer Ian Christoe, who is the Australian Greens candidate, is not new to politics. He has run twice for the state seat of Murray Plains against Nationals leader Peter Walsh.
Swan Hill Rural City Council accountant, Andrea Otto, is representing the Fusion Party and Eleanor Tabone, a teacher, is the last of the new candidates.
The four join Mr Priestly, Nationals Party candidate Sam Birrell, Liberal’s Steve Brooks, United Australia Party candidate Dr Rob Peterson, One Nation’s Rikkie Tyrrell, Labor candidate Bill Lodwick and Citizens Party option Jeff Davy.
Mr Lodwick only made his decision to run again — he was involved in the 2019 election against current member (retiring at this election) Damian Drum — last week.
There were eight candidates involved in the 2019 Nicholls election, three of those independents alongside the major parties of the Nationals (Mr Drum), Labor (Mr Lodwick), One Nation (Ms Tyrrell), United Australia and the Greens.
The Greens and United Australia candidates are new to the Nicholls electorate.
In the NSW Farrer seat former Albury mayor Amanda Duncan-Strelec was a late nomination and is running as an independent. Ms Duncan-Strelec spent 16 years on Albury Council and served as the council’s first female mayor in 1995 and has previously stood as an independent candidate in the NSW Legislative Assembly for Albury in 1995 and in the House of Representatives for Farrer in 1998.
The list of Nicholls candidates, in order on the ballot paper are: Tim Laird (Liberal Democrats), Sam Birrell (Nationals), Rikkie-Lee Tyrrell (One Nation), Bill Lodwick (Labor), Jeff Davy, (Australian Citizens Party), Rob Peterson (United Australia Party), Ian Christoe (Greens), Andrea Otto (Fusion Party), Steve Brooks (Liberal), Eleonor Tabone (Australian Federation Party), Rob Priestly, Independent.
The candidates will appear on the Farrer ballot paper in the following order: Eli Davern (The Greens), Sussan Ley (Liberal Party), Amanda Duncan-Strelec (independent), Paul Britton (Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party), Ian Christopher Roworth (Liberal Democrats Party), Richard Francis (Pauline Hanson's One Nation), Julie Ramos (United Australia Party) and Darren Cameron (Australian Labor Party).
