People from all over the region swarmed to both the Yarrawonga and Mulwala foreshores to watch the speed boat racing whilst also enjoying the atmosphere and hospitality on offer with the Yarrawonga Fair at the Yarrawonga foreshore.
Liam Holland-Smith in Desperado was the eventual 2022 EC Griffith Cup winner with other notable performances which came from local junior racer Jetta Norrish with two seconds and a third in his boat class.
Holland-Smith said despite struggling in his early boat racing journey persistence has finally paid off.
Holland-Smith also acknowledged the hard work of the Harrison family in bringing the cup back over to Australia from New Zealand. “It has given us small, local guys a chance to win it,” he said.
The White Noise crew with driver Ricky Howard won the other big feature race, The Anzac Day Cup.
Yarrawonga Mulwala Visitor Tourism Executive Noel Wright said the weekend was another great success.
“We were really lucky with the weather and the atmosphere was fantastic,” Mr Wright said.
“It was the second time the Yarrawonga Fair and EC Griffiths Cup were combined and it was again very successful.
“The crowd we had just during practise on Friday was amazing and Saturday and Sunday exceeded expectations.
“It was great to see everyone, locals, visitors and tourists alike enjoying themselves.
“We again thank the Victorian Speed Boat Club and the staff who worked the event, everyone did a terrific job.
“We would also like to thank all those involved especially the volunteers, they are a credit to the Yarrawonga Mulwala community and it is only with this support events like the EC Griffith Cup and Yarrawonga Fair come to fruition.”
