And the win has come as a sweet surprise for his 16-year-old owner.
The chihuahua fox-terrier mix amassed a massive 246 votes to beat out young pup Jett (158 votes) and curly school dog Coco (81 votes) to claim the title of Top Dog.
Fudge’s owner Daniela ‘Dela’ Gargaro learnt Fudge won Top Dog when the Cobram Courier contacted her after school.
“My mum called me and said to expect a call, and that there was a surprise coming, but I wasn’t sure what it was about,” Dela said.
“I’m rapt, I wasn’t expecting him to really win it.”
Described as being her “best mate” Fudge is a steady companion in Dela’s life.
Born with severe epilepsy and cerebral palsy, Dela experienced seizures until undergoing brain surgery four years ago.
Dela said Fudge always knew when she was about to have a seizure and would sit with her through them.
Now in Year 11 and living a packed life - an athletic champion, swimmer, prize-winning cow rearer and horsewoman - Dela has dreams of becoming a paralympian. Right after she finishes Year 12.
Fudge certainly has his paws full with such a go-getting owner and we congratulate him on all his good work so far.
Congratulations also go to second and third-placed top dogs Jett and Coco who each received a high number of votes.
Just 12 weeks old when he entered the competition, staffy bull mastiff puppy Jett is shaping up into one of Cobram-Barooga’s most obedient dogs, while purebred Lagotto Romagnolo dog Coco continues her important work at St Joseph’s Primary School.
