Foundation, Year 1, Year 2, and VCE and VCAL students were allowed to return to school yesterday, while the remaining year levels will have to wait until Monday, June 8.
St Mary of the Angels Secondary College Nathalia Year 12 student Zarley Opray and her brother, Cobram Anglican Grammar Year 6 student Jack Opray, were both looking forward to getting back to school after learning from home the past few weeks.
“The best part was being able to relax and have more time for myself, as I had to travel two hours a day on the bus to get to and from school,” Zarley said.
“The worst bit was having to change my routine and study habits - it was such a rapid change.”
Zarley, who wants to study chiropractic at RMIT in Bundoora, said she was a bit anxious about her VCE at the start of the pandemic.
But was glad she would get her final score before the end of the year, with exams rescheduled to start in November.
“I didn't want my Year 12 dragged on,” she said.
Jack Opray much preferred being at school, but said learning from home has helped him be an independent student.
“It taught me how to be more organised,” he said.
“But I'm excited to see everyone and play basketball at recess and lunch.”
“We're so excited to be back - it's crazy to think this all happened because of a pandemic,” Zarley said.
