The shire will receive $2 544 893 as part of the $500 million Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
The new funding has been allocated to council areas across Australia based on road length and population, a similar model to the existing Roads to Recovery program.
However, new program is broader than Roads to Recovery, allowing investment in both road and community infrastructure projects.
Road projects could include the improvement of bridges and tunnels, street lighting, and heavy vehicle facilities such as rest areas.
Community projects could see new or upgraded bicycle and walking paths, community facilities and picnic shelters and barbecue facilities at parks.
Moira Shire Mayor Libro Mustica welcomed the funding.
“Our businesses and communities are connected by one of the largest per capita road networks of any Victorian council,” he said.
“We depend on this funding program to maintain up upgrade the approximately 4000 km road network.
“We look forward to discussing the various road improvement projects which could be included into our schedule of works.”
Federal Member for Nicholls Damian Drum said the grant would help support jobs and the region's economy.
“Not only will this package support jobs, construction businesses and the economy across Nicholls, it will improve our local roads and provide for new and upgraded amenities to help communities stay connected,” he said.
“I will be working closely with all five councils that fall within Nicholls to make sure projects get under way to support jobs and businesses as soon as possible.”
Campaspe Shire has been allocated $2 622 795 and Greater Shepparton City Council received $2 033 496.
The Federal Government also announced it would bring forward $1.3 billion funding for council's as part of the 2020-21 Financial Assistance Grant payment.
