Lost loved ones and people affected by the severe drought conditions were remembered at the lunch on December 14.
Because of the heat, sickness and family Christmas events being on the same days, the attendance was only 70, which was well down on previous years — however, it was a wonderful day enjoyed by all who attended with some of our guests mentioning it was the best day they had attended over many years.
The staff of the club are to be commended for their efficient and caring service. The venue was perfect and decorated to highlight the Christmas spirit.
Once again, guests were thrilled to have the Barooga Public School Choir perform by singing a melody of Christmas carols with a true Australian theme. The club thanks principal John Fraser, who guided the choir, and also the parents who attended.
Sincere thanks to the business houses of Cobram and Barooga which donated wonderful gifts, not only for this special day, but also for the club’s wheelbarrow raffle, which was laden with gifts for young and old. This raffle was won by Oriana Iannucci of Cobram.
Muriel Bach, who for many years has organised the popular card games which are held every Monday at Barooga Sports Cub, presented $1100 to the Barooga Lions Club.
This money is welcome as it is used towards costs associated with the repairs and maintenance for the Ginya Court Retirement and also towards buying new items. Anyone wishing to join the group can contact Muriel on 5873 4149.
Decorated Christmas cakes were presented to the eldest woman and man attending. Two men who had both turned 96 and one woman, 96, all received a cake.
President Darren Laffan thanked all Lions members who contributed to the day.
