Lalalty District celebrates re-opening of hall

By Liam Nash

Lalalty hall was filled to capacity on Saturday night for its re-opening.

The hall was closed following a freak storm which causes extensive damage, including dislodging the roof, in early March.

Since then, it has been a work in progress, which finally came to fruition on the weekend. Helium balloons were released as a sign the hall was back in business.

A delicious spit roast meal complemented by a range of sweets to suit all tastebuds was enjoyed by the 130 district residents.

The night was filled with loads of fun including a visit from Santa, the ever popular mystery boxes and reminiscing of the early days at the hall by some of the older generation, several who had returned to celebrate the occasion.

Lalalty hall was opened on November 10, 47 years ago, by Al Grassby with the first official event, following the opening, being John and Christine Bennett’s wedding reception.
