Footy Colours Day events can be held throughout September, raising money for Fight Cancer Foundation's education support programs which keep children learning while they undergo cancer treatment.
This year’s event was organised by VCAL students Kasidy Lucas and Dana Karakai as part of their Personal Development Skills program.
“VCAL students, as part of their PDS, are required to complete some form of community involvement,” VCAL teacher Jessica Mazur said.
“Kasidy and Dana decided to organize a Footy Colours Day where for a gold coin donation students could come to school in sports clothes.
“It has been a really good day and it is also good to see the amount of local sporting jerseys students have worn.”
Kasidy, who is in Year 11, explained why they decided to put on the Footy Colours Day and some of the preparation involved.
“As a class we decided to raise money for homelessness and we (Kasidy and Dana) decided to also do this because we thought it would be fun,” Kasidy said.
“It took about a month to organise, usually the SRC run it but this year they let us do it, they helped us with what we needed to do and we have mixed that with our own thing.
“We put posters up around the school as well as notices on Compass and today we have been running basketball and football activities.”
