Cobram Barooga RSL sub-branch vice president Glenn Murphy and secretary of the Cobram Barooga Commemoration Committee John Hanlon recently attended a Cobram Secondary College assembly.
The purpose of the visit was to set the wheels in motion to help students remember the act of commemoration from Anzac Day 2019 when the RSL donated a book rather than a floral wreath.
School captains Ellie Jones and Mitchell Hawke accepted the donated book that will become part of the school's library collection, so that all who borrow it will see the bookplate acknowledging the book was donated on Anzac Day.
On this occasion the book, Anzac Sniper, tells the life story of Sir Stanley Savige.
Readers will be inspired by the story of a boy who left school at 12, then through military service in two world wars discharged with the rank of Lieutenant General before establishing the Legacy organisation and having a successful business career.
The donation of a book to Cobram Secondary College is appropriate given its Illuminate literacy program.Â
In the future, libraries at other schools in the district will benefit through this initiative.
