Cobram champion wakeboarder Laney Chadwick has qualified to compete in Mexico after an outstanding performance at the 2019 Australian Wakeboard Nationals, finishing second in the under-14 girls competition.

Chadwick had a stellar run to finish the season at the nationals, held in Canberra from March 20 to 23 on the Molongolo River.
After winning five grassroots competitions Chadwick progressed to state of origin — Victoria versus South Australia — before winning the state titles and coming in second in the Australian nationals.
Chadwick’s father Craig said she won her heat and the semi-final from 14 others.
And now Chadwick is set to head off to Mexico to compete in the world championships in October — for the first time.
‘‘It’s a really good effort considering her age. She was was training four nights a week in Bundalong with her coach and pro wakeboarder Chloe Mills in the lead up to the event so it was pretty full-on,’’ he said.
‘‘It’ll be a great experience for her to go over there, she’s going with Chloe Mills to Orlando, training and then they’re both heading to Mexico for the event.
‘‘She’s had a really good year and although she wasn’t too happy about coming in second she rode really well.’’
Now the family is tasked with funding the almost $7000 trip and some businesses in town had already been very generous.
‘‘We’re going to have to start some fundraising and possibly looking for sponsorship,’’ he said.
‘‘We’ve had great support from some Cobram businesses and from Laney’s sponsors of Elevated Clothing and Skin Ski and Surf.’’
