Club president Ian Ennor said while it has a small membership, the members of the Deniliquin Antique Vehicle Club want to be able to support local organisations in need of financial assistance.
‘‘We decided to support CanAssist to ensure all country people have access to cancer treatment and care,’’ Mr Ennor said.
‘‘The group provides accommodation and financial assistance to people from rural and regional areas when they have to travel to regional and city centres for treatment.
‘‘The reality is that many country people simply can;t afford treatment, let alone the weeks spent away from their family and work.’’
CanAssist was established in 1955, and the Deniliquin branch was formed in January 2017.
In an update provided to the Pastoral Times in February, since then the branch has provided $118,207.94 in financial support to 66 local cancer patients. As of February, the group was actively assisting 22 people.
