The game, which was generously purchased by the Cooinda Achievers fundraising committee, has been developed by experts in the Netherlands.
Toverfafel, which means magic table, has more than 20 interactive games designed with cues to bring a sense of wonder and happiness to residents living with dementia.

Cooinda chief executive officer Alex McKenna said it included a range of intuitive games that were suited to people of all ages and were designed to prompt memories and conversations about everything from gardening to trips to the beach.
“Some of the playful games have been a huge hit with our residents, these include popping bubbles, catching swimming fish in the sea, picking up leaves and creating huge sunflowers with their hands,” Mr McKenna said.
“The wonderful thing we have seen since introducing the Tovertafel, is the interaction and conversations that have developed between the players, sometimes there’s quite a competition happening.
“The Tovertafel is portable, so we have installed several ceiling mounts to allow it to be moved to different activity areas, offering everyone the chance to play along.
“We’ve found most of our residents really enjoy the games and all that is needed is a large table, a few keen players and suddenly you are transported to a new world.

“The real benefits we’ve noticed comes from the happiness and feelings of wellbeing experienced after playing the games.
“The Tovertafel games have been developed to bring care staff and residents together to play – bringing many moments of happiness, laughter and joy for everyone and a real sense of calm and wellbeing since we introduced it.”
