One past student who knows this all too well is Cooper, who studied at the college from 2021 to 2023.
“ACE has prepared me for life through both kindness and generosity,” Cooper said.
“I feel like most schools just aim to churn out students, but at ACE, things were always different.
“It was very clear to me that Bronwyn and all the other teachers truly cared — not just about me, but about every student and their success.”
College principal Bronwyn Rose said Cooper was a pleasure to teach and described him as a bright and interesting student.
“He had a natural flair for writing and a wonderful curiosity that promotes learning,” Bronwyn said.
“Cooper made some close friends during Year 12, and I understand they are all still in touch.
“I have many indelible memories of him, especially his unique sense of humour, which he often used to keep teachers on their toes. I miss that very much.”
Today, Cooper is studying Criminology at La Trobe University, with a growing interest in international studies.
He said he wouldn’t have made it to university without the support of ACE.
“Síle, the careers teacher, helped me enter a pathways program and was there every step of the way,” he said.
“She helped me apply to university, organise accommodation, and sort out my Centrelink stuff — among many other things.
“ACE even helped fund my first year’s rent in Melbourne, which made a huge difference and lifted a massive weight off my shoulders.
“It was a wonderful school that prepared me emotionally for uni and I can’t thank them enough.”
