Dragon Boaters’ success at Vic Champs

By Yarrawonga Chronicle

Fourteen local Yarrawonga Yacht Club Dragon Boaters entered six events at the Victorian Dragon Boat Titles on Lake Nagambie last weekend.

Over 15 city and country clubs competed for prizes over distances from a gruelling 2000m marathon, 500m and 200m sprints.

Posting an excellent time in the A Grade Mixed Masters 200m final, the local paddlers secured a notable third place trophy, the first in their second state title attempt, for the newly formed club.

First time regatta sweep Julie Brooks guided the team home for the trophy.

The club has the oldest average age in the state so to take home a medal against younger opponents was a great achievement.

Four months of training three days a week in preparation to represent Yarrawonga/Mulwala at the state’s premier annual event saw much improved times in all events contested.
