Cobram Bowling Club’s annual winter pairs tournament on the last weekend of June attracted players from across Victoria and NSW riverina region.
Wild weather on Saturday forced the cancellation of two games, but excellent winter conditions on Sunday, plus incredible recovery by the greens, resulted in some competitive games.
Melbourne bowlers were the major prize winners.
Jordan Yates (Brunswick) and Matthew Breasley emerged victors with wins in all five games and 87 points.
Runners-up Ron Short (Vermont) and Colin Veenendarl (Mitcham) had five wins and 85 points, while teammates Darren Semple and Gil Frederick also won five games with 83 points to finish in third place.
Other placegetters: fourth — Tony Rees and Haydn Smith (Parkdale), five games 81 points; fifth — Steve Tatnall and Ron Tatnall, 4 wins 74 points; sixth — Brendan Woods and Josh Sanders, four wins 72 points; seventh — Josh Rudd and Adam Streltshenko, four wins 70 points; eighth — Mark Killen and Geoff Westmore, four wins 69 points; best game, day one — Chris Philpott and Bob Bowman; best game, day two — Simon Gunn, Bruce Smith.
