The event saw 36 divisions, involving 295 players playing 462 matches, play across the three days with the annual battle of Matt Findlay and Sam Dowler taking place in the open men’s division.
This year it was Findlay who came away victorious from the fifth battle in the competition, while in the women’s open it was once again Eliza Long who took the trophy against Barooga local Helene Steward.
Cobram Lawn Tennis Club president Matthew Ross-Soden said the event, now in its 93rd year, once again had a good turnout.
‘‘It was a really good range of competition and we’ve always been well-supported by other tennis clubs — we had Bruce Park, Essendon Tennis Club and Chadstone Tennis club come along, with Bruce Park Tennis Club (based in Frankston) bringing 84 players — so it’s great to have the support of those clubs,’’ he said.
Ross-Soden said the Cobram courts were praised all weekend by the travelling players for their high quality.
‘‘As always our groundskeeper Greg Dunn did an outstanding job getting the 16 grass courts up to their usual high standard,’’ he said.
Ross-Soden said the event was also well supported by the community.
‘‘We have to thank our committee and volunteers who have helped, it’s because of their fantastic work that we’re able to put this on,’’ he said.
The $3000 visa card, donated by Hicks Transport and Helloworld Travel Cobram, was raffled off and won by Lottie Opray.
