The Jamaican talent debuted for the Vixens after she stepped up to fill the boots of Emily Mannix who was out with an injury.
Delaney, 22, is keen to see what Cobram and surrounds bring to the court and encouraged players to stick to their individual styles.
‘‘It’s good to look up to the Vixens and to learn, but bring you to the court as well. The sport hasn’t seen you yet, and wants to see your type of play through the game,’’ she said.
Dehaney moved to Australia after being scouted by the Vixens while playing at a national level in Jamaica.
She said the Australian sporting culture, particularly in small towns like Cobram, was a quintessential part of what she loved about the country.
‘‘Coming to Australia and playing for the Vixens Is absolutely my career highlight. It’s such a different environment to Jamaica,’’ she said.
‘‘Everyone — the coach, staff and players — work together to get the best result. In Jamaica I’d say it’s a lot more about the individual and what you can achieve personally.’’
Dehaney also noted the effort local clubs and regional bodies like Netball Victoria put into creating publicity and opportunities for the sport.
She said it took hard work and determination make it in elite sport.
‘‘People will always have something to say, weather that is negative or positive. Its hard work so you have to be focused on what you believe in, but it’s so worth it,’’ she said.
‘‘I love the intensity of the sport. There is a different shooter every week — there is a different challenge every week.
‘‘I don’t have the max amount of self-confidence, but the team fills everyone else, so that even the weakest team member feels like the strongest player.
‘‘The coaching staff are fantastic, and that’s what drives me to be better and better every day.’’
Players will run through a warm-up session followed by a series of skills and drills. If there is time at the end they will also play a small game.
The clinic is part of Netball Victoria’s effort to increase participation and help get players ready for the winter season.
