PSG bounce back in Ligue 1 to belt Amiens

By AAP Newswire

Paris St Germain have bounced back from their shock elimination in the French League Cup by thrashing 10-man Amiens 3-0 in Ligue 1.

PSG, who lost 2-1 to Guingamp on Wednesday in the League Cup quarter-finals, struggled in Saturday's first half without Neymar, who was rested by coach Thomas Tuchel.

But the French champions stepped up a gear after the break to claim a no-nonsense win that lifted them to 50 points from 18 games. They are 13 ahead of second-placed Lille who have played two more games.

Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani bagged his 11th league goal this season when he converted a penalty in the 57th minute after Alexis Blin was sanctioned for handball.

PSG doubled the tally after Khaled Adenon was sent off for a second yellow card in the 66th minute.

In the 70th, striker Kylian Mbappe latched onto a cross from Cavani to give the visitors a two-goal cushion as he snatched his 14th goal of the campaign.

Defender Marquinhos rounded it off 11 minutes from time as PSG continued their march towards the title, leaving Amiens in 17th place with 18 points.

Wahbi Khazri's goal gave Saint-Etienne a 1-0 win over bottom-of-the-table Guingamp.

Guingamp were unable to build on their shock PSG cup victory, Khazri scoring for the visitors with his 10th league goal of the season.

Nice came out 1-0 winners against Bordeaux at the Allianz Riviera.

The home side scored the decisive goal through Allan Saint-Maximin who made no mistake converting from the spot after Ihsan Sacko was brought down inside the box.

The midfielder's fourth goal of the campaign came against the run of play with Bordeaux having the best of the first-half chances.

Meanwhile, Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas was named on Saturday in Monaco's squad , one day after joining from Chelsea. Struggling Monaco, coached by Thierry Henry, face neighbours Olympique de Marseille on Sunday at the Stade Velodrome.
