SES, CFA and Campaspe Shire Council responded to various calls for help after high winds, thunder, lightning and heavy rain caused damage in Rochester and Tennyson areas.
‘‘No road damage has been recorded however investigations will be undertaken in the area following the extreme weather,’’ a council spokesperson said.
Rochester SES unit controller Judith Gledhill said it received six official calls for help, including damage to five buildings in the Tennyson area.
‘‘The pager went off at 5pm and I didn’t get home until midnight,’’ she said.
‘‘It was a nasty storm. The type you don’t like to have.
‘‘One of the properties, on McColl Rd, lost its roof while another one on Trouson Rd lost half its roof,’’ she said.
‘‘Another three buildings had less severe damage.
‘‘Power was a big issue as some powerlines were down.
‘‘We had to go back to one of the houses because of the lightning and time limitations.
‘‘There was also a substantial number of trees down across roads so we were committed to removing those first.
‘‘There were many fallen trees heading south on Prairie Rd to Diggora Rd that were blocking traffic and Rochester CFA were called to remove a large tree on the railway line between Rochester and Elmore.
‘‘We had 14 members from Rochester, four from Bendigo and three from Echuca helping us, as well as Rochester Fire Brigade and many local farmers with chainsaws and tractors. We could not have done it without them.’’
