In the lead up to Anzac Day, Cobram-Barooga RSL Sub-Branch is urging residents to buy a poppy to support the Anzac Appeal.
Sub-Branch president Rob Brown said every year the Cobram-Barooga RSL was thankful for the generosity of locals.
‘‘Every year our local community gets behind the Anzac Appeal by buying a badge,’’ he said.
‘‘I am always so humbled and proud of the generosity our community shows during the appeal.
‘‘Our volunteers will be out and about selling appeal badges this month, please stop and make a donation to the Anzac Appeal or buy an Anzac Appeal badge — 100 per cent of the proceeds will go toward supporting our veterans.’’
Volunteers will be manning stalls at Woolworths, IGA and outside the Cobram Newsagency on Bank St — as well as visiting businesses from next Wednesday.
RSL Victoria appeals manager Peter Smith said the funds raised through the appeal allowed the RSL to support men and women who had served our country and needed support.
‘‘Please show your support for our veterans, both young and old. Buy an Anzac Appeal badge or make a donation to the Anzac Appeal,’’ he said.
The way in which the RSL provides support varies from case to case, but includes assistance with medical and other household expenses such as food, utility bills, education, employment assistance and providing advice and support with claims through the Department of Veterans Affairs.
