A disappointing result for the Seniors again this weekend. After a really good pre-game and warm up unfortunately the Cat’s left it in the rooms.
Beechworth banging on 4 goals before we touched the footy wasn’t an ideal start and things didn’t improve on the scoreboard a lot as the game went on.
Whilst Rutherglen were able to get the ball in to their forward 50, Beechworth repelled again and again as their experienced players ran it out and linked up well with their players ahead.
The Rutherglen forwards tried their best to lock it in but unfortunately weren’t able to do so.
This wasn’t through lack of effort from the forwards, but just how it panned out.
The game got a lot more physical in the second half, with the Cats responding to the physicality really well and controlling play for a fair bit of the half.
The back 6 did a great job all day running it out of defence and switching the play regularly which is something the Coaching staff have asked them to do over the last month.
Best players for the day were Ryan Maxwell who just ran in straight lines all day and never shirked a contest, Brad Zwierson who was his usual self down back and younger player Tory Oates got the final award for his efforts for 4 Quarters even though he was undersized.
Coaching and playing groups now ask sponsors and supporters to stick fat with the Cats for the rest of the season and beyond.
The guys are hurting but they continue to front up and have a crack week in week out and the next win is just around the corner.
Award Winners: Complete Body Craft – Ryan Maxwell, Corowa SportsPower –Brad Zwierson, Bridge Road Brewery – Tory Oats
Reserves
Beechworth 7:9:51 def Rutherglen 4:8:32
The weekend produced another solid effort by the Reserves but unfortunately, they fell short again. The Coaching group can’t fault the effort of the boys and another win isn’t far away.
Whilst the Cats show glimpses of what they can do, sustaining it for 4 quarters is the next challenge. Rutherglen started the game without a recognised ruckman so threw out the challenge to Tommy Kilpatrick to have a crack in there. Killa rucked the full game and was awarded the Winslow Mug for his super game.
Other solid contributors were Noodles McCluskey, Jake Goddard, Nath Thomas.
Special mention and congratulations to Duane Maloney on playing his 200th club game and not getting a kick. The Cats now enjoy a week off to refresh ourselves for the next challenge after the bye.
Award Winners: Winslow – Thomas Kilpatrick, Silverkey Cafe – Jake McClusky, Rutherglen Pizza – Jake Goddard

The Rutherglen under 14s, played Dederang on the weekend who are struggling in second last position on the ladder.
Dederang turned up with players from one of our rival sides which changed the whole dynamics of the game.
The game was played in very wet conditions with both sides giving their all. With five minutes to go the opposition scored a point making the scores even .
The Rutherglen boys ran the ball from one end of the ground to the other resulting in a Jack Torney goal.
With 90 seconds left before the end of the game, Rutherglen boys were defending in the deep part of the opposition forward line to hold on for a 1 goal victory.
