Two-hundred-and sixty-four golfers took to the Corowa Golf Course both days which delighted club management.
“The club is incredibly appreciative of the efforts of all involved,” president Malcolm McLean told The Free Press.
“Magro’s (Shaun Whitechurch) done a great job but it’s not just Magro. There’s a whole range of volunteers. This event wouldn’t have happened without their effort.
“We’ve had very good sponsors – we hope we get Betfair and Mizuno back – and we’ve had some local sponsors come on board in Corowa Travel, Pigdons Holden and Buller Wines which is pleasing.” Federation Council donated a $2,500 grant towards the event.
It has been a tough road financially for Corowa Golf Club over the past decade or so, hence the idea by club member Shaun Whitechurch to introduce the Marcus Fraser Ambrose event.
“Overall we’re doing OK. The golf industry is tough,” Mr McLean, in his fourth year as president, said.
“We’ve got an amazing product, the cinema is gaining attraction – that all helps. We still have debt but we’re in a better position than three years ago.”
Mr McLean complimented the club groundstaff on presenting the 27-hole course in a splendid condition, and all other staff including Rob Rowe’s Pro Shop and volunteers for helping to make the event so successful from Friday afternoon’s Shoot-Out, then Saturday and Sunday.
