Cr Shaun Whitechurch was re-appointed as deputy mayor of Federation Council at yesterday’s monthly meeting, for the next 12 months.
Cr Whitechurch became the inaugural deputy mayor of Federation Council upon council’s first meeting of the elected council in September 2017 following amalgamation of Corowa and Urana Shires in May 2017.
The 48-year-old supervisor at Focus Engineering Corowa told fellow councillors he appreciated their support.
“My first year on council has been a steep learning curve but I believe I’ve carried out my duties as I put forward when I decided to stand for council – that is, I’ve put ratepayers first,” he said.
All nine councilors of Federation Council voted, last September, for the deputy mayor to be a one-year appointment.
Under the Local Government Act, the appointment of Mayor was for a two-year-term and the appointment of Deputy Mayor a one-year term.
Cr Gail Law also sought the position of Deputy Mayor. Voting was by secret ballot.
