They had a great day out coming home with 2 wins!
All of Tocumwal’s boys were great contributors to the game.
Southern Riverina Steers faced Wagga White first up in the morning winning, with Archie retiring on 21, Ollie taking 1/7 and Sam bowling 0/12.
Batting first, Southern Riverina set a competitive 3/90 off their 20 overs with Hamish Teasdale and Archie Chellew being the pick of the bats, both retiring not out.
Angus Urquhart was the pick of the bowlers for Southern Riverina with 3/5 off 2 overs, helping restrict Wagga to 8/73.
After lunch the boys played South West Slopes, taking another victory getting 3/111 off their 20 overs, with 3 retirements with Southern Riverina’s best being Oliver East, Taigh Teadsale and Finn Cullen.
The Southern Riverina Steers then managed to bowl SWL out for 44, with Jed Flanaghan 3/2 off 2 and Heath Ogden 2/4 off 2 being the pick of Southern Riverina’s bowlers.
The TCC boys all bowled well getting a wicket each and Ollie hit his highest score to retire on 21.
This weekend also saw Tom White and Liam Sutton representing Southern Riverina Cricket for the Colston Scammell Shield in Hay against the CAW side.
Southern Riverina bowled CAW out for 253 with Tom taking 2/44 off his 9 overs. Liam showcased his abilities with the bat, finishing the game 19 no with Southern Riverina seeing out their overs to finish the game on 7/181.
The next game will see Southern Riverina take on the Bidgee Bitterns in round 2. The Colston Scammell Shield is an exciting opportunity for the Tocumwal boys to play some fantastic cricket against quality opposition.
This weekend Tocumwal’s under-14s resumed their two day game against Katamatite at home. Katamatite resumed with the bat at 2/53.
Tocumwal’s bowlers started well with some close LBW shouts. The Katamatite batsmen though were very patient and batted particularly well, though Tocumwal’s bowlers all did well to keep them in check.
There were some particularly good spells from Ollie East, Chase Dickens, Ava East and Arlo Haley who all bowled strongly.
Everyone who bowled did a great job, maintaining some great accuracy and limiting the numbers of wides bowled.
With the bat Ollie and Chase built well before Ollie fell for his highest score. We then lost a couple of wickets before Chase and Sam White started a nice partnership. Chase then reached his 40* and had to retire.
Jack Watson and Sam White had a wonderful partnership to get Tocumwal within striking distance of the Katamatite total before Jack fell at a key moment.
This gave Chase a chance to go back out to bat again. Sam and Chase got the Bloods to 98 before Sam was unlucky to fall caught behind. Chase Dickens had a fantastic day ending up 47 not out.
A really good effort by the whole team.
Playing Cobram at Cobram the C-grade Bloods lost the toss and were sent into bat. With Darren White going out cheaply, Logan White (46) and Pete Lankaster (20) got Tocumwal off to a great start.
With the loss of Pete, Lachie McDonald (3) and Logan were looking solid until Logan fell just short of his 50.
This brought on Spida Bennett (11) who steadied the ship along side Kenny (11) after losing a few quick wickets. Tocumwal were eventually all out in the 31st over with a score of 114.
Starting off their bowling innings strong, Tocumwal’s Joe Barker and Pete Lancaster kept Cobram’s openers to a minimum, with Joe taking 1/14 and Pete with 1/8 both off 5 overs.
This was followed by a great spell from Lachie MacDonald who took an impressive 3/27 and Logan White who was economical with his figures of 0/16 off 5.
Kenny Chellew picked up a couple of important wickets to finish his spell with 2/15 off 3. Electric fielder Dennis Sutton, bowled well with 0/17 off 4, followed by Christina Roberts with 0/11 off 3.3 overs.
Even though Cobram reached Tocumwal’s total with 4 overs remaining, captain Daniel Bennett said “all had a great time as a team”.
The Bloods also welcomed their new recruits in Ethan Wilson and Pete Lankaster, both playing their first game for Tocumwal.
This weekend saw the Bloods play Barooga at home. Tocumwal started the game being sent out to field.
The Bloods had a focus this week on being up and about with high energy in the field and what followed saw Tocumwal produce their best effort in this area this season. Barooga batters played well and fought hard, not giving a wicket away until the 29th over.
Whilst this was happening, the Bloods bowled tight lines and lengths and chased everything in the field with some fantastic efforts, especially from Reilly Rennick, Liam Sutton, Sam Bennett and Josh Wraight.
All of these players threw their bodies around, cutting off and restricting many runs. In the 29th over Zac Dixon came on after some tight bowling from Liam Sutton, Andy Arthur and Andrew Lean and finally got the first breakthrough that Tocumwal desperately needed.
Zac then backed it up with a 2nd wicket due to a great catch in the deep from Sam Bennett to finish with the pick of the figures with 2/17.
With the good platform laid, Barooga went on the attack trying to score quickly in the last 15 overs.
Tocumwal however trusted their youngsters to do the job of restricting Barooga and this saw both Tom White and Liam Sutton doing a fantastic job to close out the innings. Barooga made 198 runs total.
Unfortunately Tocumwal started poorly with the bat, finding themselves 2/0 very quickly and as a result never really recovered. Reilly Rennick and Tom Oliver threatened early to make a good partnership until Reilly fell to an LBW.
The Bloods then had consistent wickets coming with some good bowling from Barooga. Liam Sutton, Andy Arthur and Zac Dixon all fought hard at the end though it was too late for Tocumwal to get a significant total.
A great effort with the ball and in the field today with the young players really showing up and performing. We all know what we have to work on with the bat for next week against Nathalia.
