The highlight of the day was when Year 9 student Jackson Woosnam lost his locks as part of the foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.
Across the junior, middle and senior schools there were competitions for best hair with wild and wondrous creations.
But it was Jackson who attracted the attention on the day, losing his firey red hair during lunch — an easy decision for him.
‘‘I’ve had long hair for the past four years, my hair used to be down to my shoulders and I got it cut before Christmas,’’ he said.
‘‘Then I decided it was time to start fresh, so I thought I’d support a good cause. But it’s not really a matter of how it (his hair) looks, it’s helping raise awareness of the Leukaemia Foundation.’’
As part of the fundraising, the school had a competition to see which sporting house could raise the most money.
‘‘It was great to see the students from across the three sub-schools embrace the day and the cause,’’ head of senior school Ash Kennedy said.
‘‘And it is fantastic to see a student like Jackson taking the initiative and putting himself out there for the benefit of others.
‘‘This day really was a great chance for our school to come together and demonstrate our values.’’
In the crazy hair competition, both the chicken and the egg came first as Isabelle Radford and Savannah Kernaghan won the competition for their attention-grabbing designs and Lucy Cowan heralded the changing of the seasons with an autumn headpiece.
