Nathalia Agricultural Society’s 123rd annual show was a huge success with more than 1000 people attending on the weekend.

‘‘It was a really, really good day, the weather was on our side ... last year we’d just had the floods ... but this year was great,’’ society secretary Kathleen Botterill said.

‘‘There’s very few people in all of Nathalia who wouldn’t attend the show, but we also had a lot from Shepparton this year, too.’’

One of the few traditional country shows which still runs a grand parade, the theme of this year’s event was ‘Year of the Rooster’.

‘‘A rooster-themed bras and jocks competition, rooster-themed bathtub races and rooster-themed cake, colouring and painting competitions,’’ Mrs Botterill said.

Some of the attractions on Saturday at the showgrounds included sheep dog trials, Miss and Master Show Quest, poultry shows, market stalls, cattle and face painting.

‘‘This year was the second year we held the Angel Babies knitting competition, with all entries donated to hospital for premature babies,’’ Mrs Botterill said.

‘‘One bloke donated his prize money from one of the events to help pay for the postage of all the clothes to Melbourne, which was amazing.’’
