A Strathmerton man has died following a collision at the intersection of Chapel and Powerline roads in Muckatah.

The incident happened just after 1.30pm on Friday. The man died at the scene.

According to Acting Sergeant Trent Buscall, a prime mover travelling west along Powerline Rd and a white utility travelling south along Chapel Rd collided.

‘‘The incident resulted in the death of the 57-year-old male,’’ Sgt Buscall said.

The victim, who was the driver of the utility, and the truck driver, 46, were the sole occupants of their vehicles.

The major collision investigation unit was called to the scene to determine the cause of the incident.

Both roads were closed at the intersection for some time while investigations took place.

The driver of the truck was taken into custody and was later charged with dangerous driving causing death.

The man appeared before Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was released on bail after being charged at the weekend.

He is scheduled to reappear in court in August.
