Mixed bag of results for Cobram Roar teams

On another beautiful morning, Roar began very slowly. The first 10 minutes had Roar struggling to control the game with the continual pressure from Hotspurs.

On another beautiful morning, Roar began very slowly. The first 10 minutes had Roar struggling to control the game with the continual pressure from Hotspurs.

Roar’s defences were overrun and it conceded two quick goals before it settled when S. Rowe scored before half-time.

Roar came out fighting after the break, with R. Denny, J. Steward and M. Artavilla-Bennett’s defensive pressure allowing the team to move forward and score two goals to take the lead.

Roar maintained the lead in what had become a very fast-paced game, until Hotspurs scored the equaliser just before the final whistle.

It was a great overall performance by Cobram Roar.

Under-12

Albury Hotspurs 0

The under-12s had a convincing win against Albury Hotspurs.

From the outset Cobram attacked and was rewarded with six different players getting on the scoresheet.

Sonny Rowe and Jackson Koopman both scored two and Jesse Wakeman, Thomas Corso, Logan Stone and Jake Kalz scored one each.

All goals resulted from either well constructed team plays or from well executed free kicks outside the penalty box.

Keeper Jordan Kelly was solid and ensured Hotspurs didn’t score.

Deacon Forster and Luke Goodin played well in defence and chased down and nullified any attacking moves from Hotspurs.

It was a pleasing win with all players contributing.

Goals: Jackson 2, Sonny 2, Thomas, Jesse, Jake, Logan.

Awards: Ciaran, Jake.

In round eight, Cobram Roar came up against a strong physical side in Albury Hotspurs.

The first half saw both teams evenly matched.

Seb Fotia opened the scoring with a goal from the square through heavy traffic. This set up a great contest and both teams were kept busy with the ball racing up and down the field.

The midfield work rate of Noah Sullivan, Declan Cheong and Noah Sneddon was superb and the back-line of Hunter Goodin, Nick Wood and Toby Shilling stood solid in defence, denying Albury Hotspurs any scoring opportunities.

The Roar was surprised early in the second half by a quick goal by the Hotspurs. However, the boys retaliated quickly with a great goal from Sam Wood.

The intensity of the game lifted with both teams equal on the scoreboard.

Albury Hotspurs took advantage of a rare opening in defence and hammered home a long-range shot which found the back of the net. Not to be outdone, the boys rallied and Seb Fotia finished off a great run forward with his second goal.

The game moved up another notch and became a tough physical contest.

Albury Hotspurs scored again with another long-range kick.

The Cobram players took up the challenge again and began their relentless attack on goal. Unfortunately, they were beaten by the clock.

Overall, it was a great contest and the team was unlucky to come away with a loss.

Under-16

Cobram Roar 6 d

Albury Hotspurs 1

This week Cobram Roar hosted Albury Hotspurs.

An early goal to Saif Alibraheem was followed by a penalty goal to Tarkyn Hyde, another hat-trick to Cooper Sorrenti, and a goal to Zain Bartolic.

Cobram Roar had great defence despite having three players currently out injured.

It a fantastic team effort, Roar played football that the club is 100 per cent proud of.

An undermanned Cobram side took to the pitch against a strong Hotspurs team.

Despite some great footwork, passing and runs by the Cobram players, the pressure applied by the strong and speedy Hotspurs girls was too great.
