Cobram race car driver Ben Hamilton had a mixed bag of results at round two of the APRA Nissan Pulsar Series at Phillip Island two weeks ago.
After being unable to finish the first race, he bounced back to finish fifth in both the second and third races of the day to put himself in the strong position of fourth overall in the championship.
The keen motorsport fan said it was a dream come true to race at a track such as Phillip Island.
‘‘It was my first time racing at the circuit and it was an amazing experience,’’ Hamilton said.
‘‘It makes my appreciation of how the professional drivers do it even greater. The track requires so much commitment in skill and handling.’’
Although it was a topsy-turvy kind of day, Hamilton was pleased improvements were made in certain areas.
‘‘I had some really good battles with other drivers with no contact, which made it so much better,’’ he said.
‘‘I was reaching speeds of around 210km/h down into the first turn which was thrilling.
‘‘The only low light was when I ran out of fuel with one-and-a-half laps to go in the first race. I also went off the circuit at 185km/h but luckily kept the car off the wall.
‘‘I must thank North Vic Engines for their amazing tune-up work with their dyno. I also must thank Intune Automotive for their repair work underneath the car.
‘‘Future Fitness 24/7, Cobram Hire and Artavilla’s Emporium have also been fantastic with their support of my driving.’’
