Books turned into cash

Fruitful partnership: Vicky Stephens from RACV Cobram with Mary Powell (president) and Eve Hartshorne from the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary.

The Ladies Hospital Auxiliary has reaped the rewards of its hard work, being presented with a cheque for $500 from the RACV Holiday Resort after donating a large number of books to the resort which were subsequently sold for $2 each.

RACV kindly sells the books to visitors and generously returns all profits to the Ladies Auxiliary.

RACV Cobram operations manager Steve Tatnall said the idea was coined a few years ago by an RACV staff member who he described as a ‘‘bit of a bookworm’’.

‘‘It started four or five years ago now because we thought it would be nice to sell the books and donate the profits to the Ladies Auxiliary because we have historically done a lot of work with them.

‘‘We even have regular visitors now who bring books for us to sell. It has really grown a lot over the past few years,’’ Mr Tatnall said.
