Haylee Adams will be packing her bags for Sydney next year as she gears up for the Show Horse Council Grand Nationals.
Adams, 15, is a member of the Cobram and District Pony Club and competed at The Show Horse Council Battle of the Borders in Albury last month with her horse Yabba Lodge Simba.
Finishing reserve champion in the under-17 rider event, in the top 10 of the large show hunter pony competition and champion in the child’s large show hunter pony competition, Adams blitzed the competition to qualify for Sydney.
She took on competitors from NSW, Queensland and Victoria to qualify for the rider and child’s show hunter pony competition in Sydney.
The young rider trained her horse from an early age and said she would use the bond she had with her mount to her advantage in Sydney.
‘‘I’m very excited because this will be the highest level competition I’ve competed in,’’ Adams said.
‘‘I’m proud of my performance in Albury and hope that I can bring the same quality to Sydney.’’
Adams started riding when she was three and getting to the Sydney Grand National competition has been her dream for a long time.
‘‘Ever since I got this horse I have wanted to get to this point, so it’s a big achievement,’’ she said.
‘‘I rode my horse three times per week and gradually got his fitness up to standard. I’m really proud to get to this stage and I hope I can do well in Sydney.’’
