A fun run in Cobram this weekend will raise funds for a family devastated by domestic violence.
Four children now aged between five and 10 were orphaned on Anzac Day last year when their parents died in a murder-suicide.
Perta Thomson Partners was hit hard by the tragedy, which saw company manager Brenton Dunne’s sister-in-law Ora Holt shot and killed by her partner Greg Floyd, who then took his own life.
Mr Dunne said the impact had been indescribable.
‘‘On top of the shock, disbelief, denial, anger and grief we are experiencing, we are now faced with the stark reality that there are four children aged five through to 10 that have been left without their mum and dad,’’ he said.
‘‘I can see the deep sadness in the eyes of my father-in-law and mother-in-law as they try to grapple with the reality of losing a daughter, and the fact she was murdered.’’
Mr Dunne is grateful for his employer’s support.
‘‘The support I have received from Perta Thomson Partners during this time is incredible and in particular it was the brainchild of Lou Perta to not just sit around and do nothing but to think about how we can help someone in the ‘office family’, and most of all how can we help the children,’’ he said.
‘‘So, in conjunction with Perta Thomson Partners, we are looking to raise money for the kids.’’
The company is aiming to raise $25000 for the family with Sunday’s fun run, which will include a 3km kids’ run, a 5km run, a 10km run and a 21km challenge.
All events start and finish at Thompsons Beach. Registrations must be made before the event, but 3km registrations can be made on the day.
The 21km challenge starts at 8.30am and costs $35, the 10km run starts at 9am and costs $30, the 5km run starts at 9.30am and costs $25 and the 3km run starts at 9.35am and costs $5.
