The Bowden Homes team Andrew Pearn, Darrell Bowden and Scott Denham.

Miller Pipe and Civil team Jimmy Hart, Daryl Watt and Mark Miller.

The competition was fierce as local tradies ditched boots for bowls at the seventh annual Tradies v Tradies bowls day.

The event at Barooga Bowls Club served as an end-of-year celebration leading into Christmas.

Started by Darrell Bowden and Leanne May in 2010, the day saw 18 tradesmen from the Cobram-Barooga area compete across six teams.

The Miller Pipe and Civil team took the honours on the day, Bowden Homes was runner-up and the Pipes, Bombs, Bikes and Trucks team claimed bronze.

Organiser Colin Campbell said the event brought different trades together in a social night.

‘‘Every year we get such a great bunch of guys who all enjoy the night,’’ he said.

‘‘A lot of tradesmen work either on their own or in a small company, so this gives them a chance to have a Christmas party.’’

Campbell thanked Barooga Bowls Club, Barooga Hotel and Dean Miller for their support, as well as local businesses for donations toward prizes.
