Second centenary bell theft takes toll on school

December 27, 2017

Barooga Public Schools Lincoln, Jai, Xalia, Caleb and Daniel were saddened to find the school's bell had been stolen.

A glum silence fell over Barooga Public School after its centenary bell was stolen for a second time.

Students were robbed of the chance to ring the custom-made bell at the end of the school year after it was taken on the weekend of November 25 and 26.

The missing bell added to a horror couple of months for the school that also saw its stainless steel barbecue stolen in September.

Office manager Rae Bush said she didn’t understand what anyone would want with the bell, which was engraved with the school’s name.

‘‘People don’t understand that these things cost a lot of money,’’ she said.

●Anyone with information about the missing bell or barbecue should phone Deniliquin police on 5881 9299 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
