An elderly woman and shoppers in Cobram were lucky to escape injury after the car the woman was driving mounted the footpath in Bank St and crashed into Paul Roberts Jewellers about 11.45am yesterday.
Police believe the woman mistakenly hit the accelerator, thinking she was in reverse and not drive.
She was taken to Cobram Hospital for assessment but appeared to be unharmed.
Damage to the business was minor and staff were relieved the impact was not more severe.
One staff member told The Courier it happened quickly and just ‘‘went bang’’.
She said the damage could always be fixed and everyone in the shop was pleased the woman was unharmed.
