Cobram Community House and Women with Disabilities Victoria have joined forces to launch the Moira Hub for local women with a disability.
The hub is a leadership group for local women who identify as having a disability.
It aims to empower and enable women to gain leadership skills and confidence to advocate for themselves and other women with a disability at different levels of the community.
The program is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) as part of a transition support package and is linked to the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
Moira Hub co-ordinator Jenny Godwin said Moira was chosen as one of four regional hubs as a result of it hosting the Enabling Women Program in 2017.
‘‘This was made possible due to overwhelming support from organisations such as Cobram Community House, Moira Shire, DHHS, Women’s Health Goulburn North East, Cobram-Barooga Soroptomist and MHA Care,’’ she said.
‘‘It was also helped by many local women who donated time and expertise to make it such a success.
‘‘Cobram Community House is proud to be associated with this project and looks forward to very positive outcomes for local women with disabilities.’’
