Finley’s Hayley Graham had huge success last week in the hunting events at the Royal Melbourne Show.
Riding her home-bred horse Just Annabelle Way for her grandparents Ian and Anne Hosken from Cobram, Hayley and her mother Jenny travelled to Melbourne on September 25 and competed for the next two days.
Representing Hume Hunt Club, Hayley joined Gippsland Riders and Friends Club in the hunting team relay.
Hayley was motivated by her cheer squad who pushed her forward as she raced other teams around a short course under lights to take top honours in the event.
Wednesday morning was a terrific performance from Hayley and Annabelle, who put their best foot forward in the workout to win the middleweight hunter on the flat.
To top off the morning, Hayley went on to be awarded Champion Hunter on the Flat.
The show finished with Annabelle cruising through the jumping courses to carry Hayley around the panels safely and secure podium finishes in highly competitive fields.
Jenny said Annabelle had been a challenge, but she was pleased the horse matured for the major event.
‘‘Hayley was rapt with her performance and was really proud of how Annabelle performed,’’ she said.
‘‘She has competed in this competition before, but never done this well.
‘‘Hayley’s grandfather has been involved in the sport for a long time, so he was very emotional to see Hayley do extremely well.’’
