The weather conditions were close to perfect for the competition and the grounds once again presented in immaculate condition by the Barooga Sporties ground staff.
The competition, on April 6 and 7, is on the calendar for many northern Victorian and southern NSW competitors because they know their horses have the chance to compete on an exceptional surface which is solid and forgiving in dressage and showjumping arenas, allowing them to show off their horse’s pace and jumping ability.
A pink sports day was incorporated into the program again this year in memory of past president Debra Kruz, who died 12 months ago from breast cancer.
The judges, volunteers, members, competitors and their horses were all in the spirit — getting on some pink — on the weekend, making it a fun competition and the committee thanked all who supported and donated toward the club’s fundraiser and helping raise $1429.65.
For the dressage, it was at more challenging end of the scale in level tests and it was pleasing to see some lovely flowing tests performed.
Each year the club sees competitors returning with their horses and it is great to see these combinations progressing through into the higher levels of both disciplines.
Congratulations to club members Emily Hehir, who pointed out of level two, going into level one on her grey warmblood Northern Asterix.
Hehir placed second in the jackpot on the Saturday and first in the jackpot on the Sunday, finishing second in the overall jackpot.
Sam Arthur, riding Wyann Guns and Roses, placed second in the overall level three jackpot, while Fiona Wettenhall, riding Matitojo Duvallier, finished second in the overall level four jackpot.
Junior members Holly Arthur, riding Millington Gordon, won overall jackpot in level five with Charlotte Ware, riding Nawarrah Park Tiger Tim, finished second.
Sally Marsden, riding Warrendi Lodge Royalist, placed sixth in the 3.4 and Trevor Joyce, riding Van Goghs Masterpiece, placed fourth in the 4.4.
