Women show golfing prowess

August 23, 2017

Jenny Tom receives her prize from Chris Crawford (President).

Cobram Barooga Golf Club hosted its annual two-day Edna O’Brien Open Women’s Championship on Monday and Tuesday, August 14 and 15.

Perfect weather and conditions greeted the 87 players on Monday, however, on Tuesday only the early starters managed nine holes before the rain began.

The later starters contended with light rain becoming steadier as the day went on.

This didn’t affect Judy Langford from Wodonga who followed up an 81 on the first day with 79 on the second day to win the championship with 160 gross.

Sandy Millett from Mooroopna was runner-up with 172.

Edna O’Brien’s neice, Margaret Batrouney, played in the tournament for the 18th time out of the 19 years the tournament has been held.

Margaret was very happy to present the winner’s trophy to Judy.

Cobram Barooga members took advantage of their home ground advantage and collected a lot of the trophies.
