This Sunday, Cobram Roar’s second annual legends match will be played at Scott Recreation Reserve, Cobram.
The initiative started last season, with about 20 past soccer players returning for the match.
This year has seen the numbers more than double, as past players from various generations have jumped on board to take part.
There are almost 50 players registered to play, from Fillippo Muscara who was president back in 1977, Frank Diaco and Nick Mete who both scored winning goals in the 1978 premiership side, to Phil Muscara, Adrian Fantig, Bruno Condello and Darren Valente, who all played in the 1997 grand final side.
Club president Michael Startari said he was extremely pleased with the response from past players.
‘‘We have got people coming back from all over the state, from Melbourne, Shepparton, Bendigo — even Myrtleford,’’ he said.
‘‘It will be great for everyone to catch up and reminisce and make a weekend out it.
‘‘This season the players will also have their own special-edition legends shirt that they get to keep after the match.
‘‘Following the senior match the club will be putting on a feast with some delicious traditional food being cooked as it coincides with the club’s last home match and end-of-season major raffle.’’
●Just a reminder that the match will not be played at the showgrounds but at Scott Recreation Reserve, with the legends match kick-off at 11.30am, seniors at 3pm and after-match function at 5.30pm. Free entry to the match.
