Moira Shire Council is calling for nominations for community, business, industry and community group representatives to be a part of the Environment Sustainability Advisory Committee (ESAC).

Moira Shire Council is calling for nominations for community, business, industry and community group representatives to be a part of the Environment Sustainability Advisory Committee (ESAC).

The role of ESAC is to implement the initiatives outlined in council’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2017-21, which was unanimously endorsed by councillors at last week’s ordinary meeting.

Moira’s community general manager Sally Rice said this new strategy would provide a strategic framework to assist council with decision making and prioritisation around issues that affect environmental sustainability.

‘‘It also highlights the need for council to focus on identifying and mitigating environmental risks,’’ Ms Rice said.

‘‘ESAC — which includes key partner organisations, community representatives, community groups, industry and businesses — was integral in the development of our updated strategy.

‘‘As a member of the committee your role will be to provide advice, input and support to Moira Shire Council in developing and implementing our environmental strategy.’’

The nomination period will close Wednesday, August 23 with councillors to endorse the committee at the September ordinary meeting.

Nomination forms are available online or at council’s service centres in Yarrawonga and Cobram.
