NSW State Member for Murray Adrian Piccoli says entries are now open for the 2017 NSW Grandparent of the Year Awards.
Mr Piccoli is urging people in the region to nominate grandparents or older people who go above and beyond for their families and the local community.
‘‘Whether you’re a grandchild or someone who is simply thankful for a grandparent or older person who makes a difference in this region, then nominate them today,’’ Mr Piccoli said.
‘‘We would like to highlight the invaluable contribution of older people ahead of Grandparents Day on Sunday, October 29.’’
NSW Minister for Ageing Tanya Davies said NSW Grandparents Day was launched by the NSW Government in 2011 and was a key initiative under the NSW Ageing Strategy.
‘‘We want to challenge stereotypes and promote the talent and experience of older people, who make our communities better places to live and work,’’ Mrs Davies said.
Mr Piccoli said to make a 2017 Grandparent of the Year Award nomination, forms were available from his electorate offices at Deniliquin on (03) 5881 7034 or Griffith on (02) 6962 6644.
Entries close on September 8 and the winner will be announced on October 18.
