Country songstress Beccy Cole is back in Shepparton and Bendigo this week – but this time she is not alone.
The South Australian performer will be touring with her good mate, musician Adam Harvey, to perform songs off their new collaborative album, The Great Country Songbook Volume 2.
The album is her first where she shares top billing with another artist and is the follow-up to Adam’s successful 2014 record, The Great Country Songbook, which he released with Troy Cassar-Daley.
Beccy and Adam have been good friends since they met nearly 20 years ago at Tamworth, but despite touring together many times, this was the first time they released an album together.
“We came to the studio with a host of songs each and a lot of the same songs were on both of our lists,” she said.
Although all of the songs pay tribute to the originals, they duo put their own spin on the classic songs.
“I was a little bit worried about Don’t Fall in Love With a Dreamer,” she said.
The ’80s pop-country classic, originally by Kim Carnes and Kenny Rogers, had an over-the-top production that was common from the decade.
“It was such a huge ’80s ballad at the time, but you wouldn’t produce something like that these days,” she said.
“We did a much more stripped back version and it still works.”
Despite the risks of releasing her first collaborative album it debuted at number six on the ARIA charts, the highest debut for either artist, when the album dropped in April.
