There are only four rounds left until the finals of the Numurkah Squash Club winter competition.

Monday night saw Damian Hipwell score a surprise win against club champion Andrew Storer in their line one match.

Storer stunned the gallery with an amazing reflex shot in the first game and went on to take the game 9-4.

Hipwell led early in the second game with both trading finesse shots.

Hipwell had game point at 8-6 but played a drop shot well within Storer’s range.

The ball was sent to the back of the court and the score was quickly tied at 8-8.

Hipwell nominated a 10-point game and Storer couldn’t put him away with game point at 9-8.

Hipwell served strongly and took the game 10-9 with a high and deep serve into the backhand court.

Games three and four were one sided with Hipwell coming out on top 9-1, 9-1.

In a make-up line one match for the previous round, Phil Armstrong played Andrew Storer after the Hipwell match. Neither threatened to impress the squash gods and Storer easily accounted for Armstrong 9-2, 9-4, 10-8.

Will Watkins played Gavin Banko in a line two match that went the full distance.

Banko started well and took the first game 9-3 but lost two points in the second game by hitting the ball back too close to himself. The referee rewarded Watkins’ let calls with strokes and he won the second and third games 9-6, 9-3.

Banko’s backhand boast shots off the side wall were on song and helped him take the fourth game 9-7, levelling the match two games all.

Watkins had Banko covering a lot of ground on court with drop shots followed by lengthy deep strokes.

Watkins pulled away with a 9-3 win in the fifth game.

Dave Kelly was so keen to take on Christine Poort in a line three match that he entered the wrong court and interrupted another match.

After finding the correct court Kelly was not troubled.

Poort was a long way from her gritty best, playing too many unforced errors and leaving too many balls mid-court for Kelly to dispose of easily.

Kelly took the match 9-1, 9-0, 9-2.

Other results: Line three: Max Hall d Nick Pettigrove 9-5, 9-0, 9-2.

Marco Franco d Geoff Eddy 9-4, 9-3, 8-10, 9-5.

Line four: Sonia Withers d Sam Kelly 9-6, 9-1, 9-6.

Jake McPherson d Jack Kelly 9-4, 9-1, 3-9, 9-7.

Line five: Hudson Storer d Kobie Hipwell 9-1, 9-0, 9-4.

Neroli Eddy d Eamon Storer 9-7, 9-2, 9-0.
