There’s a buzz in town among Cobram Secondary College students who have just returned from school holidays.

Excitement has been building among students as they prepared for a visit from actor Spencer Wilding next week.

The Hollywood star, a well-known special creature actor with high-profile roles including Darth Vader from Star Wars, will be involved in a huge variety of activities during his visit to the school.

Thanks to sponsorship from Cobram Youth Group, he will tour the school, attend a whole school assembly and engage with middle and senior school students at Q&A sessions.

There will be a lot of interest in a workshop focusing on martial arts — one of Wilding’s areas of expertise — and the students are certain to enjoy the drama workshops he conducts for them.

Wilding will also visit and inspire the Illuminate and Boost groups’ reading comprehension sessions.

He will judge a best costume competition at the school’s dress-up day and meet the team that will be entering the RACV Energy Breakthrough challenge.

The school expects Wilding’s visit to be a very busy time and a terrific amount of enthusiasm has been generated.

Chris Hindle from Cobram Secondary College is one lucky student — he has already met the Hollywood star. The Courier asked Chris about his experience.

How did you come to meet Spencer Wilding in the UK?

I met Spencer a few years ago when my mum used to organise fundraising events for the children’s hospice in North Wales that Spencer was involved in.

What preparations are Year 12 drama students involved in for his visit?

We are all excited that Spencer will be conducting drama workshops with us. I suppose we are all thinking of questions we can ask and looking forward to Spencer showing us techniques and tips that will assist us when auditioning for college or our first acting role.

What will happen on the big dress-up day?

The whole school has been invited to dress up as a character from any movie or TV show that Spencer has starred in. Spencer has been asked if he will judge the best costume.

Were your fellow students excited when they heard about the visit to your school by a Hollywood star?

Oh yes! When the video message by Spencer was presented to the students at assembly, there were gasps of excitement. When the students found out that he was a friend of my family, they could not believe that I knew Darth Vader!

Are you a fan of any of his movies, such as the Star Wars or Harry Potter series?

Very much so, I’m a real movie geek. My favourite ones are Harry Potter, Star Wars, Batman, Dr Who and Game Of Thrones.

What costume will you wear for the dress-up day?

I will be going as Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter. I have the robe already after visiting the Harry Potter studios in London.

Has Spencer Wilding’s visit inspired you in your career choice?

Since I met him 10 years ago, his story of how he became an actor inspired me so much. He gave me the motivation that I too could become an actor.

What are you most looking forward to during the time Spencer is here in Cobram-Barooga?

Definitely catching up with Spencer and I’m so excited that my fellow students will also have the opportunity to meet a movie star and hear his most inspiring story.

●The Red Carpet Gala Ball will be held on Friday, July 28 at 6pm. Tickets can be pre-purchased from Cobram Newsagency, the Sporties, or the Cobram Secondary School office.
