Despite the wet weather in Cobram last week, progress continued on the construction of the town’s newest childcare centre.
The concrete slab was poured on Thursday morning in preparation for a 110-place facility to be built by Oasis Homes that will significantly boost local childcare capacity.
Trikki Kidz owner Trudy Brooks said the centre was on schedule for completion in early 2018.
‘‘There’s been a lot of growth in Barooga at our 66-place centre. We’ve been full for a long time there,’’ Ms Brooks said.
‘‘That centre has been operating for 10 years now.
‘‘We’re building this one for Cobram, for the long-term growth of the town.’’
The spacious new centre was also expected to relieve pressure on the Barooga site, with some Cobram parents travelling across the river each day for childcare.
Ms Brooks said there would be ample room for the children, plus a cafeteria and communal area for parents, while after-school care and programs may also be offered in the future.
