A wonderful third Lions Club of Barooga debutante ball was held on Friday, May 26 at the Barooga Sports Club.

The auditorium and stage looked spectacular in silver and peach colours.

The party consisted of beautiful debutantes and partners, many of whom had siblings who had been involved in the balls over a number of years, one family dating back to 1993.

A deb in this ball, Olivia Damore, was previously a flower girl.

The debutante party, wearing beautiful gowns and handsome tails, was led to the floor by page boy and flower girl Sam and Ally Stillard, with the girls carrying peach orchid cluster flowers.

Randall Jones was master of ceremonies and Lions District 201V6 governor elect Norm Walkington and Lee Walkington received the debutante party.

Debutante Callie Ashford, assisted by Jayden Hitchcock, gave a beautiful speech on behalf of the party and expressed their appreciation for all that had been done to make their night so special.

Felicity Aksionov and Taj Swoffer cut the cake and Olivia Damore and Will Lavery presented the gifts.

Mr Walkington congratulated the deb party, families and Lions Club of Barooga for presenting such a beautiful ball.

Lions club president Linda Ryder thanked the band, photographer Rhonda Doyle and videographer Adrian Bennett, who was videoing his last ball.

Following the presentation, guests took to the dance floor to enjoy the music of Scott and Amanda.

The Lions Club of Barooga also farewelled ball co-ordinator Jean Dodd, who had resigned in 2014 but returned in 2015 to help.

Many debs and partners dating back to 1993 filled the dance floor and each embraced her, with Katy Millsteed giving a beautiful speech.

The ball committee has decided to run all future debs as a joint club project, with Ms Dodd acting in an advisory role.

The committee will be: David Stillard, Rick Anthony, Jean Dodd and Vicki Ackers, with a president, vice-president and treasurer.

The second and third balls for 2018 are fully booked and there are two vacancies in the first. A fourth ball will be held if more girls wish to participate.

Interested people can phone Rick Anthony on 58734943; Ms Dodd will pass on names already registered.

Debs and partners will be notified in early January about an information day.

Vicki Ackers will handle training inquiries on 0417469005.

The debutante party raffle was won by Invergordon’s Helen Lee.

The Lions club thanked the Barooga Sports Club and Fallons Bus Service for their support.
