Jungle party to support trip

June 29, 2017

Fundraising for a special cause: Team Moira World Challenge's Simon Kelly, Ned Hocking, Randall Jones, Ellie Jones, Teagan Peterson and Haley Knight will host an open garden in Barooga this weekend to fundraise for their trip to Sri Lanka.

Jungle fever will be hitting Cobram this weekend as part of a special event to raise money for a student trip to Sri Lanka.

The group of Moira Shire students — made up of 12 Year 9 and 10 students from Cobram, Numurkah and Nathalia secondary colleges — will embark on a 21-day trip to Sri Lanka in September as part of Team Moira World Challenge Sri Lanka.

To support the community project phase of their upcoming expedition, the students will hold a fully supervised under-18 youth event on Saturday night.

The group will tackle a few hiking challenges across mixed terrain in Sri Lanka, before embarking on a community project to give something back to the community.

It’s the first time schools from the three districts have got together to participate and the group members said they were really excited about it, with a few hearing really positive experiences from family members and friends who had previously participated in a World Challenge trip.

The Jungle Party event will be held at St Margaret’s Church Hall, Pine St, Cobram, with a jungle theme from 7pm to 10pm.

Music is being co-ordinated by the Kelly Brothers, with renowned Melbourne DJ Press Play the main act.

All monies raised will be used to fund the team’s project work — improving and resourcing a local community school in the tea plantation area of central Sri Lanka.

Entry is $10 with snacks and drinks available, with the event supported by Cobram Youth Group.
