Students studying VET hospitality/VCE food studies and VCAL pathways at St Mary of the Angels Secondary College had the opportunity to learn from some well-known faces in the food industry during the Good Food and Wine Show held in Melbourne on Friday.
The senior level secondary students enjoyed the rare opportunity of small group mentoring sessions with Manu Feildel and Matt Moran, two of the most recognisable celebrity chefs.
They also met MasterChef runner-up Matt Sinclair.
VET hospitality co-ordinator Neroli Eddy said the show was an ‘‘incredible event’’.
‘‘To have the opportunity to be a part of it and to have our students take so much away from their experiences on the day was fabulous,’’ she said.
‘‘To be able to meet, interact and learn from individuals like Manu and Matt is pretty amazing and that sentiment certainly wasn’t lost on them.’’
Year 11 VET hospitality student Kirrin Hardbottle from Cobram hopes to have a career in catering.
‘‘Watching Manu cook was definitely a highlight of the day — it was surreal,’’ she said.
‘‘We got to see Manu, Matt Moran and Matt Sinclair which was really awesome.
‘‘It was an amazing event. The smell of all of the different foods was incredible and having the opportunity to walk around and talk to so many different people who all share similar interests was great.
‘‘I’ll definitely look forward to going back again next year.’’
