Success goes to next level

Showing off: Cobram’s Margaret Watson, Maree Logan and Sara Simm celebrate their efforts at a regional level.

Cobram Show has produced the best fruit cake and carrot cake in the region and the best sewer.

At the Goulburn Valley Riverina Shows Association awards in Shepparton recently, two of our finest women came home with the goods.

Maree Logan was again successful in winning three classes — the sewing, knitting and crochet competitions.

Margaret Watson wowed the judges, winning the rich fruit cake competition.

Both women will represent the region at the Royal Melbourne Show in September.

GVRSA is made up of 12 local shows from Berrigan, down to Euroa and across to Rochester. The regional dinner is held every year for the judging of about eight different classes.

Cobram Show president Karen Creighton said they were proud of their contestants.

‘‘We appreciate the time and effort required to compete at such a high level,’’ she said.

‘‘Margaret was successful with her carrot cake as well, she will represent the region at this year’s VAS state conference being held in Shepparton in early July.

‘‘Margaret has exhibited and stewarded at the Cobram Show for the past 40 years.

‘‘Other prize winners on the night were Lorna Barry, first prize in the scrapbooking; Gabby Wilkins, second with her boiled fruit cake; and Sara Simm second in photography.

‘‘Jacob Champagne also competed in the junior photography but was unsuccessful in placing on the night.’’
